The Island Tapes

The Island Tapes premiered at Celtic Connections in 2006. The show is an emotional journey of the senses, "The Island Tapes" fuses Celtic Guitar, fiddle and Gaelic song in a live soundtrack for silent black and white Scottish archive films. The films featured come from St Kilda, Orkney, Shetland, Skye and Harris and were recorded in the 1920’s and 30’s and St Kilda was evacuated on the 29th of August 1930 hence the significance of the date. This show also includes a sixth film exploring Scottish emigration to North America and asks the questions when people have to leave their home where do they stop?

The production features Scottish guitarist David Allison, classical guitarist Allan Neave, the inventive Scottish fiddling of David Critchon and the superb Gaelic singer Alyth McCormack.
