Hiort: L’île des Hommes-Oiseaux at the Edinburgh International Festival 2009
2009 also saw the Belgian production of the St Kilda Opera coming to Scotland for the first time! Sponsored by Lloyds TSB Scotland, L’île des Hommes-Oiseaux was performed as a highlight of the Edinburgh International Festival 2009, on the 15th, 16th and 17th August in the Edinburgh Festival Theatre.
After an intensive assessment process, Mangurstadh in Uig has been identified as the preferred location by the consultants for the proposed St Kilda Centre. The proposed permanent St Kilda Centre will aim to capture and celebrate the ‘spirit of place’ of the UK’s only mixed UNESCO World Heritage Site.
St Kilda: A European Opera was a spectacular live theatre and multi media event which took place in Midsummer 2007.
This major international co-production was performed in five European venues simultaneously - France (Valenciennes), Belgium (Mons), Germany (Düsseldorf), Austria (Hallstatt) and Scotland (Stornoway) - linked by live satellite connection to St Kilda and webcast live on the BBC.
